A full 10 year passport is required for everyone entering Egypt and must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the return date.
For British Passport holders an Egyptian Visa is required which is obtainable at major points of entry in Egypt, at a cost of £15. Visas can be obtained in the UK at a cost of £15.00 from the Egyptian Embassy, London taking 3/4 days to process. All other nationalities should check their visa requirements before travelling. Our representative at Luxor airport is allowed access behind Passport Control and can obtain visas for our clients. Clients arriving at Cairo should purchase their own visas.
No compulsory vaccinations are required by UK residents at present. You should however, take advice from your doctor as to which, if any, may be advisable. Protection against Hepatitis, Typhoid, Tetanus and Polio are recommended. It is advisable to pack a small first aid kit containing remedies for short term stomach problems, dehydration and small cuts. Use of a repellent cream or spray is usually sufficient to keep mosquitos at bay. Try to avoid ice in drinks and use common sense when deciding what and where to eat and drink. Hand cleansing gel is also recommended.
The local currency used in Egypt is the Egyptian Pound (LE) with an approximate currency exchange of 8.75LE to £1.00. Credit Cards and Debit Cards are accepted on board the Ms Stephanie and the Ms Monica for Bar bills and additional expenses only, optional tours can only be paid in cash to the guide on board. Many other Nile cruisers do not accept Credit cards, but they are widely accepted in hotels, local shops and restaurants. The exchange ate is applicable at time of updating this document. Many street traders and shops will accept English pounds, Euros and Dollars for your purchase, check before you start to haggle.
All excursions and tours will be locally guided by English speaking guides.
TIPPING – NILE CRUISE
Traditionally, a tip is expected at the rate of £4.00 per person per night on the Nile cruisers.
This sum includes the coach drivers, bell boys, housekeeping staff, crew and bar/restaurant staff to name but a few. Additional tipping is not expected.
